Thrift Store Review: D Thrift (Stockton, CA)

This week's post is a review for D Thrift, one of the larger thrift stores in Stockton.  You might know it as Delta Thrift, but the inside is the same and they have a wide selection of items to browse through.

D Thrift rivals Superior Thrift in size but not in quality or price.  Unlike the smaller thrift shops like the Delta Humane Society or Shelter Thrift, it lacks something in presentation and appears more like a warehouse with its long, narrow aisles and concrete floor.

The Good:

  • D Thrift is the first thrift shop I've seen to sell shampoo and unused hygiene products.  While they're not amazingly cheap, it does add convenience for a one-stop shopping trip.

  • There are a lot of vintage furniture selections, most in good shape and for low prices.  It makes the place a bit cluttered and difficult to navigate, but there are some interesting pieces.

Like this little organ, for example.

  • What this store lacks in quality it makes up for in quantity.

The Bad:

  • As stated in the color scale, prices aren't that cheap.  Some of the clothes are brand new with tags still attached, but they're not sold at low prices.  A dress I saw was $14.49.

Wow you know you're a cheapskate when you think a thrift store is too expensive..
  • D Thrift also doesn't have a very wide selection of books.  It's limited to one tall shelf sandwiched between to lower shelves to make an uncomfortable little corner that makes it awkward for more than one person to look at a time.

I didn't recognize a single book..which might say more about me than the selection.

Of course, keep in mind that a thrift store is due to change all the time.  Maybe I just went at a bad time, and most of it was picked over.  I'll make sure to go again and give it another chance.

FAQ:

  • Do they take credit cards?  Yes, but beware because they charge you five dollars to use it.
  • Do they have a website?  http://dthriftstore.com/
  • When do they accept donations?  During their business hours.  To see what kinds of things they're looking for go to: http://dthriftstore.com/donating.html
  • What are the places of interest in the area?  D Thrift is right next store to a sushi buffet and across the street from Costco and a Mongolian Barbecue.
That's it for this week!  Tune in next week for another thrift store review.
