Used Book Store Review: Friends of the Stockton Public Library

This week the wonderful second hand store I will be reviewing is the Friends of the Stockton Library Book Store.  Here you can find reasonably priced books donated by the Stockton libraries or generous people in the community.  Although it's a small book store, there is a wide variety of books to choose from, and I've never left empty handed.

Stockton residents may know the location because it's right next to GymStars and David's Pizza, which doesn't seem like a wise move (calories next to exercise?) but it's easy to miss this little shop.  But if you love a good book then this is not a store you want to pass up.

Prices are extremely reasonable, much better than any bookstore I've ever been in.  Everything ranges from 50 cents up to 5 dollars, though I've never bought any book over 3 dollars.

Pay special attention to the far right side of the shop just as you enter, that's where the classics and plays are.  If you have to buy a copy of Shakespeare's Macbeth or Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, you'd be better off searching at a used bookstore before going to a Barnes and Noble.

I suffer from a very rare disease in which I impulsively buy more books than I can read.  This is just a small portion of the books I've gotten from Friends of the Stockton Public Library.

That copy of 1984 that I practically snatched off the shelf and did a small victory dance because I've been wanting to read it for months but was too lazy to go to the library and too cheap to buy it at Barnes and Noble?  75 cents!

Especially if you like older books or any of those mass-produced mystery novels by James Patterson or John Grisham, this shop is the place to go.  They also have children's books, comic books, reference books and even sheet music and records.

All the books are in excellent condition as well.

Thank you for reading!  I hope you visit this second hand store and stock up on so many books that you won't have time to read them all and they'll just collect dust on your desk and stare at you, silently judging you because you're on the computer blogging instead of reading.
Not that I'd know from experience.
Please feel free to comment and discuss your favorite books or book stores, because we need to keep the used book stores of our towns alive!

  1. I love this store BUT...lately they are waaaay overpriced on text books, especially ones missing cd's, etc. Just because a text book was expensive originally, doesn't mean it still is. Please look up these books and see what they are going for instead of making up a price going by original cost. Students can't afford to excessively donate funds. Mad because checking after buying, 2 times I was charged double (even with shipping!)
